300 volunteers met, today, on Plaja Modern to participate in the traditional action of collecting waste left behind on the beach by tourists and locals.

At 10.00:XNUMX a.m. on a pleasant autumn day, the stretch of sand from Modern to Reyna was filled with clean-loving people. They took to the beaches freed of sunbeds and collected the waste left behind by those who believe that nature can still bear their garbage. Dozens of bags of debris were collected, but  less than last year. And this is the good news! The volunteers found less trash which is a gratifying fact. Last year three tons of waste were collected, and now I think we are talking  of only a few hundred kilograms.

If you didn't know, I'm letting you know that researchers from the Grigore Antipa National Institute, who test the fauna and flora of the Black Sea, discovered plastic particles in mussels and several fish species. This is to understand the effect of debris left on the beach, which is automatically carried by the wind into the sea.

The sea is filled with garbage from the shore

right European Environment Agency, approximately 80% of the waste found in the marine environment comes from activities that take place on the continent. The source of marine litter is not necessarily limited to human activities on the coast. Even when disposed of on land, rivers, floods and wind will carry waste into the sea. Fishing activities, shipping, offshore installations such as oil rigs and sewage systems complete the process.

There are some regional variations regarding the origin of marine litter. In the Mediterranean Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea, the activities carried out on the continent generate the majority of marine waste; In the North Sea, on the other hand, maritime activities contribute equally to the generation of this type of waste.

Today's action started at the initiative of Constanța ReStart, Zoom Beach and City Park Mall.
